In 2003 I ,along with others founded Scottish Karate Alliance .Until my retirement I took a squad of athletes to European and World Championships every year during which time we won individual and team kumite events in both adults and cadets as well as some individual kata .
From 1999 until 2018 I hosted the Ayrshire Scottish Open Championships with individual and team categories for every age group both male and female
I was a professional karate Instructor from 2000 to 2018 when I retired .I now teach two nights a week to help my community
**** I was upgraded by WUKO after chief referring the World Championships .
At the after dinner party President Henke asked me when I sat my last upgrade and I replied 2004 ,he thanked me and the conversation changed . It was a complete surprise to me when my Go Dan certificate arrived in the post 2 months later . It caused some problems with the UK grading system but for my total respect for President Henke I accepted the grade with honour . *****
Over my competitive years I won various local events ,in those days there were only local events plus KUGB Nationals and a European Championship. On a personal note I got involved teaching as there was nobody else and ,in my opinion ,you can not teach and compete successfully .Back in those days it was normal to be a “sensei “ at 1st dan level
